Ahhhh, St. Moritz! It sounds so crisp, cool and luxurious, doesn’t it? Like Roger Federer’s forehand. According to suedostschweiz.ch, Roger tried to keep a low profile in the sunny and snowy Swiss resort town while attending the famed “White Turf” horse races as a VIP guest of his sponsor Credit Suisse (Google translated):
With a lowered nose and dark sunglasses on his head, Roger Federer on Sunday sought to remain anonymous at the White Turf in St. Moritz on Sunday. . .The effort was in vain.
And the scoop from the White Turf website:
Excellent conditions accompanied the opening day of the 2010 White Turf. 10,000 spectators (and among them Roger Federer and his family) came to the frozen lake of St. Moritz and watched six captivating races including the Grand Prix Guardaval Real Estate, an important preliminary trial to the Gübelin 71st Grand Prix of St. Moritz that takes place on the 21st of February.
I’d never heard of the event before, but apparently it involves thoroughbred horse racing, loads of champagne and Roger Federer. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday (but I’ve never been a big fan of the Super Bowl.)
Here are some shots of White Turf, to give you an idea of its FAH-bulousness:
Yes, that’s a man’s skiing behind a horse – it’s called Skijöring, duh! I’m sure Roger was conflicted as a child: tennis G.O.A.T., footballer or Skijöring master? I think he chose wisely.
Purty:
Things will soon be heating up for Roger – his post Australian Open plans include a visit to Ethiopia for his foundation along with training at his Dubai home prior to the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships, which begins on February 21.
Thanks to the folks at RF.com for posting the Fed photo!

I must try Skijöring someday. Sweet shades, Roger
ahhhhhh…..the good life. fab photos, it looks beautiful there.
My apologies for the absolutely dumbest question…but when you say rf.com, do you mean rogerfederer.com?
Thanks!
she does, and its not the dumbest question ever.
yep! sorry not to clue you in on my insider Fed lingo.
Here are the two latest converts to unabashed RF worship – John McEnroe and Matt Wilansky. Better late than never…
By the way, in my opinion, Calendar Grand Slam does not matter for Roger. In order to beat Rod Laver, he needs three of those and that is not possible at this stage of Federer’s career (that is if he is in fact a mere mortal human being, which i still think he probably is, though i am not sure anymore). So, why kill oneself trying to achieve one CGS if it will only make him one of the few greats who had managed that feat before, when his many other numbers have already put him way above and beyond of anybody’s reach? His focus should be (and i think it already is because he knows all this better than anybody) on winning a few more Slams and keeping the top ranking for as many weeks as possible.
So, here is what i saw on ESPN this morning.
ZURICH — John McEnroe thinks Roger Federer is the best men’s tennis player of all-time.
(We’ve had a little more than a week to digest and dissect Roger Federer’s latest Grand Slam title. So what, if anything, did we learn from Slam No. 16? First and foremost, it’s time to stop doubting the guy, writes Matt Wilansky on his blog.)
McEnroe, also considered one of the game’s greats, said Tuesday he ranks the Swiss star ahead of Rod Laver, the only man to win all four Grand Slam events in one year, and seven-time Wimbledon champion Pete Sampras.
Promoting an ATP Champions Tour event in Zurich, McEnroe said Laver was his idol and Sampras was the greatest grass-court player ever. But the American left-hander said Federer, who has won a record 16 Grand Slam titles, was the greatest of all.
McEnroe said Federer’s ability to average two Grand Slam titles a year was “phenomenally consistent and amazing.”
thanks for sharing that info. it makes me an even happier fed fan
Thanks for the info, MarK. I love how John McEnroe has worked out his own GOAT hierarchy in his head. I know that he said when Roger won the French that he was the GOAT, maybe this is his version of the U-GOAT argument!
i remember that FO moment with johnny mac and fed and the coup, jmac declaring him GOAT and he’s often said fed’s run from ‘04-’07 was the greatest 4 years in the history of tennis.
fed won 3 of 4 majors in 3 separate years (‘04, ‘06, ‘07) and reached the finals of FO in ‘06, ‘07, ‘08, finally winning in ‘09. he’s rocked on all the surfaces! were it not for the C-GOAT rafa, who knows?! plus the 5 straight wimbys and 5 straight uso, no one has done this. let’s not even talk about the 23 semi GS or better that’s still going! U-GOAT, is that undisputed?
love it!
When I see the word “spotted”, I immediately think “XOXO, Gossip Girl”. I know, I watch too much bad television!
Skijöring… wow… never heard of that before. See, we learn something new every day.
Quite a dramatic climate change, the Alps to Ethiopia. I wonder if the Fed clan will go en masse to warm Ethiopia after all this cold. These girls are being toughned up from the craddle, they’ll end up superpowerful indestructible heroines if they keep this up
Man crush alert: Johnny Mac said: Roger Federer is the most beautiful tennis player I have ever watched, and I will never get tired of watching him play…
I also think he is the most beautiful, sublime, versatile, peRFect, tennis player ever to play the game…
