Seeing Rafa’s technicolor fantasy/nightmare made me wonder what Nike had in store for Roger Federer at this year’s Australian Open. Instead of playing Twister: “I got one hand on kangaroo and my left foot’s on Kylie Minogue!” it seems Nike’s design team decided: “let’s see what we have in the back.” Yes, recycling is always en vogue.
Here’s what the the folks at Mens Tennis Forum are predicting for Roger Federer’s Australian Open outfit, ca. 2010:

Well, at least it’s not exactly the same. Ca. 2009:
Yes, this year’s look is boring. But that’s how I like it: tried and true. Red and blue are Roger’s power colors and he looks great in both. Verdasco rocks the neon animal prints, Nadal transcends the Miami Vice colorways, and Roger Federer owns the crisp polo shirt like Cary Grant in a tuxedo. Though I do hope he gets a customized waistband that allows for one of his signature belts.

Andre Agassi on Roger Federer at the 2005 US Open final (from Open):
“Federer comes onto the court looking like Cary Grant. I almost wonder if he’s going to play in an ascot and a smoking jacket. He’s permanently smooth. . .”
Mr. Smooth worked the collar-less blue shirt that year:
And the original Mr. Smooth, in crisp black and white:
“My father used to say, ‘Let them see you and not the suit. That should be secondary.’” – Cary Grant

I like the blue… I know people will roll their eyes and say blue again but I’ve never seen him in this shade of blue and hey as long as he looks good that’s all that matters, right?
elegant, but is more of the same.
Not unlike his Main Rival, Roger looks great in whatever he wears so this is no exception (okay… that Wimbledon 2009 kit might well have been one of the very rare ones!). Still… I can’t help finding it a mite boring. Why not try something slightly different for a change? I’d love to see him dressed in Deep Purple.
Someone drop Nike a line please.
YAAAAAWWWWWWN!
As for the “My father used to say, ‘Let them see you and not the suit. That should be secondary.’” That quote is totally about Federer’s main rival!
As for the AO pic: THEIR ARMS ARE TOUCHING! ZOMG! SO CUUUTE! *hyper ventilates*
Oh yeah, a special Christmas message to Nike:
F*U*C*K* Y*O*U* very much.
Happy holidays pricks.
I hate Nike with a passion…
Can you tell?
Did you guys see what Nando is going to wear? I swear, I hate Adidas too! I refuse to buy anything from both Nike and Adidas! With their choice of insane and boring attire, they are making it that much easier for me NOT to purchase from them.
FLOVE the athletes, HATE the sponsors.
I like Roger’s clothes, boring as they may be. He looks really good in blue, and my taste runs to the classic anyway. And judging by Rafa’s new shorts, Roger is lucky Nike didn’t decide to design anything new for him!
Yah the Fed AO outfit is kinda “meh”.. nothing much to yap about..same ol same ol really. :l
I love those belts! When I first noticed he was wearing a belt at Wimby a few years back I thought that was so classy and I love how he’s always wearing a dapper belt that is the perfect on court accessory! Such a style champ
Thank you for that shirtless pic of Roger.
Has definitely made my day!!
I voted ‘tired’ for the shirt…not that it’s not elegant. It definitely is, but it’s same old, same old. But better boring & tested than new & disastrous. Either way, so long as he wins the Australian Open!! I can’t bear any more defeats…we need a trophy. Come on Roger!
Well, it suits Roger… boring.
i know, it’s blue again, which i don’t mind since it’s one of my favorite colors. something more interesting would be nice, but i’d prefer cool and classic vs. too busy for fed. i don’t think i’ve seen him in the slams wearing this shade of blue. i’ll just be happy to see him back on court and competing at the top!
i love the comparison to cary grant. he was funny, charming and always looked suave and elegant in a suit (all custom tailored in england), as does fed when he’s making the rounds off court. thank god he graduated from this…

haha thanks for that photo judy, I’m so glad Mirka gave him some style sense.
I don’t care what Roger wears as long as he ditches the white-trimmed shirts that he wore at Basel, Paris, and London WTF. Definitely not lucky!
Blue is a good color a lot of people, though, and definitely looks good on Fed. As for style, I don’t think anyone will ever get him away from the GQ look.
Doesn’t matter what he wears he always looks boring. He’s obviously a great player but NOT the best thing that has happened to tennis. Other players are far more exciting.
I love all his outfits…at least it doesn’t make him look like a clown on court unlike everybody else.
and Hunter, don’t be bitter.Just accept the fact that HE IS THE BEST THING that happened in Tennis!
