The ATP All Stars, including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, paid tribute to the now-retired Marat Safin in this ATP video. It was shown after Marat lost to Juan Martin del Potro on Wednesday at the Paris Masters (click here for more on the ceremony.)
I was waiting for Radek Stepanek to add: “But I’ll always get more chicks than you!” Oh well, some things are better left for the lockerroom.
Love this class photo! What is Nole doing to Gilly?

And some more scenes from this sad, sad day. (Why’s Marat have to look so dang happy – and hot?)

What is Nole doing to Gilly?
Answer: Nole wanted to heal Gillou’s bad knee. But that’s an excuse. Nole just wanted to touch Gillou and feel close to him. Hmmm
OK. I’m starting to really like Delpo!
That girl with the giant tennis ball is totally blissed out. Marat, I can smell him, I could reach out and touch him, I wonder what it feels like to run your fingers through his hair….
Marat, you will be missed.
if he was that close to me, i’d probably have trouble speaking or would blurt out something stupid. either way, i would bask in the glow of his dreaminess! nice little atp vid. you could tell marat was soaking it all in and enjoying the moment. i swear he was getting teary-eyed while watching the tribute! i’m so going when he gets inducted into the int’l tennis hall of fame! who’s with me?! they should have one of his smashed racquets, for posterity.
I’m a guy and most times I hate male celebrates whom women seem to love (Brad Pitt etc) for their looks alone. But Marat is different. He’s one of the few men who seems like he would be a great buddy, or a wiser older brother looking out for you. Plus he doesn’t seem like he’d be a douchebag to a woman, even though he may have been involved with many. (I feel women are attracted to perfect a-holes as long as they are good looking)
Marat also could play the game of tennis like nobody could (except for Roger of course). We did not hate him when he lost because he did not show a sense of entitlement like many other players, but felt for him – we all know what it means to be frustrated bcos of our imperfections. Marat, you are one of us, yet you are special. We’ll miss you!
HI SAFIN, I GREW UP SEEING YOU ONE OF THE STYLISH STARS DEFYING THE COURT NO MATTER WHO IS IN OPPOSITE, OH JESUS, YOU’R A SUCH AN ADMIRABLE PERSON MAN, I REALLY LOVE YOU BUDDY. ALL THE BEST FOR UR FUTURE. THE ONE YOU WON AGAINST FEDRER AND SAMPRAS WAS STILL MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE.
THANKS FOR ALL THE FANTASTIC THINGS YOU DONE ON AND OFF THE COURT…
IM YOUR ALL TIME FAN–TAKE CARE C U…..
Marat, lots of love, we’ll always remember you! Go ski with Nole now and be happy.
I am unprepared for how sad I am about this! I am gonna miss Marat sooo much! He will always be one of my favorite players to watch on and off the court (and not JUST because he’s so gorgeous, although that is a factor).
p.s. how awkward was fernando verdasco’s sign off?
