Well, Roger Federer is feeling good. After a month of rest and recovery off the tour, he’s retaking the court at his home tournament – the Davidoff Swiss Indoors in Basel. Roger’s looking to win it for the fourth time in a row, and his website declares that he’s happy with his draw:
Roger can be pleased with today’s draw for the Swiss Indoors in Basel – his hometown.
Our champ will meet a qualifier in the first round before later meeting Andreas Seppi (ITA) or Stéphane Bohli (SUI). James Blake (USA/7) and Fernando Gonzalez (CHI/3) are the highest seeds on Roger’s side of the draw.
Roger has been staying in Basel for a few days already in order to prepare for his first tournament after not having competed for several weeks. The town is bustling with activity as the annual fun-fair is being held at the same time as the Swiss Indoors.
Novak Djokovic is the tournament’s second seed. Second-Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka is in his quarter and Marin Cilic, Ivo Karlovic or Radek Stepanek are possible semifinal opponents for Nole. Juan Martin Del Potro was slated to participate but withdrew with a wrist injury.
The above photo is of Roger and his old buddy Marco Chiudinelli in training this weekend, from Blick.ch. The accompanying article on the Swiss site states that “the two do not act like two rich 28-year-old veterans in the early autumn of their careers, but as two juniors who have just arrived.” An interesting piece of news - Blick reports that Roger has made a staffing change, replacing his regular masseur, Gary Hamilton, with Stephane Vivier, an ATP physio.
Andy Murray will be playing in the other ATP 500 tournament this coming week in Valencia, Spain. According to the tournament website, Andy Roddick has withdrawn – Roddick suffered a ligament sprain in Shanghai earlier this month. Click here for the Valencia website (good luck trying to locate a draw.) *Rafa will not be playing in Valencia.
