Tennis chair umpires Gerry Armstrong and Carlos Bernardes share their thoughts on the game and their roles in it:
Nice stuff, but where’s Mohamed Lahyani? Maybe he’s getting his very own ATP feature sometime soon. . .I’m hoping for a weekly series.

You’re right, where’s MoLa? He’s the best in the biz. And Carlos Ramos? They never show him
Everytime I see Carlos, it brings me back to the day that Marat dropped his pants in 2004 at FO for his incredible shot — best point celebration of all time — and Carlos gave him a point penalty. Very very funny.
I had to agree with Carlos then — otherwise, guys and girls would start dropping pants and tennis would become too popular that tickets would be hard to find.
I do not know who the Chair Umpire was for the Simon/Djokovic match at the Master Series Shanghai 2009. During the Simon/Djokovic match with the score at 3-6, 6-2, 1-2 and Djokovic serving at 15-0, did anyone notice that Simon should have lost the point because he reached over the net and used his racket to stop his momentum by touching the court on Djokovic’s side? Everyone was focused on how close Simon came to touching the net but didn’t seem to realize that Simon touched Djokovic’s side of the court before Simon’s shot had bounced twice; therefore Simon touched Djokovic’s side of the court with his racket while the point was still in play and should have lost the point.
