Too much Serena for this week, don't you think?
Sorry, not a fan.
i agree, and btw there is a massive amount of airbrushing and condensing in photoshop going on.
No one to represent men's tennis? ;(
Not that i know of – at first USA today said James Blake would be in the magazine but I don't think he is.
Pass.
LOL…no kidding
Okay, okay. But you have to remember that issue is about athletes' bodies, not supermodel's bodies.
Athlete's bodies are made to perform, not necessarily to look like Brooklyn Decker. And I have a feeling that Serena's physique helps her play the game that got her to No. 1 in the world. The interesting thing is that a player like Justine Henin or even he sister, Venus, obviously have different body types, different games, but still succeed.
If they intended to showcase her athletic physique on their cover, they missed the mark. Of all the cover photos I saw, Serena's showed the least amount of muscle. All the other athletes, both male and female, were in some sort of athletic pose showing well-defined muscles. Serena's has quite a different look.
i think hers is the only cover done completely in the nude, not surprised. not crazy about all the serena 'exposure' lately. i like the idea that there should have been a men's pro representing… calling MR. SAFIN! notice how i have np with the marat safin retirement posts. keep them coming!
I love that Serena's body is considered mannish, but the rail thin chicks with no hips or breasts are feminine. Ok, so she's got muscles. And? No Judy, they are all "seemingly" nude, not just Serena. Why act like they decided to do this the day after the US Open and this wasn't planned in advanced. The magazine is trying to promote self esteem in getting people to like their body no matter what type it is. Not everyone is 104 pounds and an A cup.
yeah – I agree that this is a long-time planned. I wonder at some point after the US Open the magazine thinking of pulling Serena from this issue.
By the way, it's a good concept about self-esteem, people should be proud of their body and most importantly beautiful MIND.
I agree with everything you say….show me a man with such thighs & breasts! *faints*. lol. i.e. very curvy. Sure, she is big, but I fail to see the man-ness that people talk about. And talking of mascular players, even the thin ones e.g. Dementieva are very very mascular. So are they also considered mannish?
ok so maybe dwight howard is nude in his cover, but the others, inc the women aren't completely nude, that's all i was saying. i'm just not a fan. it's not about her body, in fact she is impressively powerful and strong, not to mention mentally tough. i know these things are planned well in advance and it's not related to the us open, i'm just not crazy about reading about her so often, but that's just me. i didn't mean to offend. i simply don't appreciate her attitude and lack of grace in certain situations and i've felt this way well before the us open. i admire venus more because she is always respectful. it IS great that tennis champions come in all heights, shapes and sizes.
You got it, Angel!
I think Serena looks pretty good! With those curves, how on earth does she look mannish?
I agree with Angel — women of all sizes and shapes can be great athletes.
I also agree that ESPN is missing out by not featuring the guys!
I completely agree Liz!
I just don't see how she looks mannish…
Man-ish? Yeah, all the men I know have bootylicious posterior and D cups!
Those people who imagine that Serena's seriously sexy cover has been photo shopped and airbrushed should take a look at this http://www.terezowens.com/the-body-issue-the-maki... . Ms. Williams went naturally au naturel!
thanks for the link. yes they were all naturally shot, but the retouching happens after the photoshoot before anything gets printed. it's nothing unusual. they all do it.
She doesn't look a bit mannish to me, but I think that she's been digitally enhanced to the max. C'mon. kids, we know what she really looks like when she plays. I love her Plus Sized muscular body. Don't like this trashy Cosmo airbrushing.
And , as I've said here many times before: "If she were MY daughter."
