When Rafanatics attack! After Rafael Nadal’s scintillating win over Gael Monfils on Tuesday, a lusty fan rushed the court to celebrate the victory with a kiss. And Rafa didn’t seem to mind so much. Check it out at the 60 second mark – the post match interview with Darren Cahill follows.
Personally, this kind of stuff scares the stuffing out of me – and makes me worry that the players will start playing in cages or behind bulletproof glass. But the unflappable Rafa just laughed it off:
Q. What did you think when the man came out of the stands and came up to you?
RAFAEL NADAL: No, for me it wasn’t the problem. The guy was really nice (laughter.)
Q. Did he say anything?
RAFAEL NADAL: Yes. He was a great fan. He said, I love you, and he kiss me. (laughter.)
Q. Was he speaking Spanish?
RAFAEL NADAL: No, in English, but I understand that. (laughter.)
The New York Times reported that the overzealous Rafanatic was handcuffed and in police custody, pending review. Click here for more.

Lucky guys. Rafa wanted a hug.
“Don’t touch what you cant afford.”
Luckily the fan only wanted to congratulate his hero, with a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
this stuff worries me. thank goodness in the incidents this year the people have been harmless fools, but they cannot allow this to happen at any event! let's NOT have another horrifying seles-like incident. there are crazy people out there, so security for the players and fans must be super tight.
I'm surprised and appalled that a fan got on the court in New York, especially in light of what happened in Paris. Tennis is lucky that this guy had no intention of harming Rafa. Security must do a better job of protecting the players.
