Novak Djokovic was in the mood for more tennis after dominating Radek Stepanek 6-1, 6-3, 6-3, in the Round of 16 at the US Open on Monday night. After his new coach, Todd Martin, turned him down, he went for the sure thing and asked John McEnroe to come down from the ESPN broadcast booth for a hit. While McEnroe found his sneakers, Nole did his McBrat impression. (McEnroe gets his revenge later.)
Loving the new, old Nole and his determination to woo the New York crowd. I think they’re falling for it!

Love it….would never happen down my road at Wimbledon!!!
I so agree- let Nole be the funny smart Nole we love, not the grim guy. He not only wooed the folks at the open, he made me laugh and feel happy.. I'm wooed..
There may be better places to explain why I still adore John McEnroe, the golf Dad in this video. Gather about me, little ones. Forget the crazy curls, the shorties and the bad mouth. As Martina Navratilova said: "John is an artist and his racquet is his paint brush."
So forgive him if he sounds to you like a gaffer talking about the good old days. Sure, he remembers Borg, Connors, Edberg and Becker. But he has a sharp eye , the sharpest mouth and the best memory.
And Nole — relax, be funny, be happy,
I'm so with you, Alice! When I read that this had happened I was super sad for laming out and going to bed after the first set. Johnnie Mac is one of my all-time faves, and one of the few players who's almost as fun to listen to in the booth as to watch on the court.
Thanks for posting this, freakyfrites!
novak, you are simply great!
yes, old/new nole is great. super entertaining! i think showing this side of him again will lead to him playing better. i remember how fun it was to watch him when he first came on the scene. obviously a student of the game too, with all the great impressions. i am starting to like him again, except when he comes up against rog
johnny mac rocks. he is a tennis legend and does a lot to promote the sport. i've always loved his commentating and it's even more fun to hear the mcenroe bros in the booth together. i think the technical expertise and insight, combined with back in the day and behind the scenes stories is always fun to watch and listen to.
