Rafael Nadal gave this interview to the ATP prior to taking the court this week in Cincy. Rafa doesn’t reveal anything new, but he does seem to be in a remarkably good mood. Love the smile!
Rafa was equally chipper about starting the week as the No. 3 player in the world (via the AP):
“It’s only a number,” he said Monday. “I hope to be ready in the future to come back to No. 2 or to be in the top position.”
He broke into a grin.
“No. 3 is a very good number, too,” Nadal said.
Rafa plays the winner of Jan Hernych vs. Andreas Seppi in his first match in Cincy.

Love this champion, for me Roger as an achiever is the greatest of all time. But Rafael Nadal inform for me is the greatest player ever, so strong, so mentally tough, so intense, amazing, remarkable Rafa!!! he’s loss in Madrid was sad against Fed but not surprising. The way he defeated Djokovic trying to find his A game although injured was amazing to watch. Honestly every historic match, every dramatic match seems to have his name linked to it, he brings so much to tennis and as re sparked my love for the game no doubt… he is one of the all time greats already!!!
I am happy just to see rafa on the courts again. I did not expect him to win. Rafa will fight back and he will get to his best form. Good to see Murry winning Montreal anybody but Rodger.
I agree when he says he needs “more matches” because he looked really rusty during that match with Del Po, he was ahead in that tie break and should have won it.
Rafa has always has a sincere commitment to his tennis, which is inspirational and people love him for that.
How weird! A year ago I was heartbroken that this guy took my guy’s number 1 position, today I am dumbfounded that this guy has moved to number 3.
