With high-profile players like Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal coming back from their well-publicized injuries, you may have missed Diego Hartfield’s story. The Argentine dirt-baller has been out for most of 2009 after tearing ligaments in his knees. (British No. 1 Anne Keothavong suffered a similar injury playing in Stanford last week and is likely out for the rest of the season.)
The guys at Fue Buena put this video together. It shows the struggles players go through on the comeback trail:
“I miss the competition – we players live for it.” Doesn’t matter if you’re ranked 350 or No. 1 in the world, I guess.

This certainly shows the rigors of recovery. Thinking about Rafa Nadal and his path to recovery. We don’t truly appreciate IMO what these athletes go through to be able to be competitive.
Best of luck to Diego Hartfield for his comeback, he is a truly nice guy! I remember him playing in Austria (Pörtschach) a year or two ago, and a ball kid collapsed from sunstroke, he was the first to notice and to look after the poor kid, and looked really worried when the paramedics finally took over. I do hope to see him well and fit on court again soon!
I love Diego! I liked his when I saw him playing Federer on RG 2006. He seems to be a very nice guy, I wish him all the best. It's perfectly possible to recover and return to top 100, and even more than that! Te deseo buena suerte, Dieguito!
