Another lovely day at the LA Tennis Open! Which of course means lots of new photos of Marat Safin.
Pete Sampras may have been Monday night’s Tournament Honoree (click here and here for more), but the LA tournament is turning out to be Marat’s party. Monday he played Pistol Pete in a hard-fought exhibition match, followed by doubles with his partner Igor Kunitsyn vs. Baghdatis/Sela, and Tuesday was his first round singles match against Indy-champ Robby Ginepri (followed by some pattycake with local kids.)
So far, Marat’s won every match. (He plays Ernests Gublis Wednesday.)
Dare to dream, Safin fans!

Aww, look at the group picture. Someone doesn’t belong…:)
I’m so happy he won 3 matches in a row. Maybe the exhibition fueled some fire into our retiring Safin.
Here’s to a nice LA Tennis Open! I’m hoping the US Open too. If he could just take the Slam then he can put a circle to his career.
Thank you very much for the photos, freakyfrites!
so basically you were stalking him
i am very jealous!
thank you for providing us our safin fix! have to get as much in as possible before he retires! i will miss his hotness and antics on and off court- there’s just no one like him.
I agree! Seeing him play and watching him interact with fans and help out the tournament with the extra exos, playing dubs and promos it really is too bad he won’t stick around for another year or two.
I think tournament directors may be even more upset than fans – the guy is always great to have around, even if he isn’t winning. At the very least, I hope Marat falls into a career path that involves tennis.
You’re so lucky you get to see Marat! Too bad TV coverage doesn’t start until Thursday. The match with Gulbis should be a good one.
