Yes, I know we’ve had our fill of Roger Federer Wimbledon videos (right?) but this is probably one of the best video interviews I’ve ever seen of him. Roger talks frankly to Boris Becker and Greg Rusedski about being amongst legends, watching Mirka in the stands and how he feels about breaking the records.
I would have added this to the Federer Film Festival but I think this deserves it’s own post, don’t you?

Firstly, thank you for finding and posting this video. Off all of the post Wimbledon interview, I can say this is definitely one of the best and my favorites.
Secondly, how dare you Roger, you self centered, arrogant, fashion loving egotist, to even think acting humble and saying you didn’t think yourself worthy the company of the other three greats. Just kidding of course. This just adds more to how much I love this man.

Thanks for this – I watched it on TV but it’s great to be able to see it again. There’s something special about Roger chatting with his colleagues and peers, his whole way of expressing himself become so much more natural and relaxed. There’s a lovely honesty to to him here, especially when he talks about not quite believing he’s part of the “Golden Quartet”.
But I think my favourite part is when Becker says “glückwünsche” (congratulations) and gives Roger a wee bum pat

Great video, ff. I’m impressed with how you can find such wonderful stuff for us. I agree with Eve that Roger is at his best in interviews like this one. He was so thoughtful about his success, about what it means to him — not wanting records to possess them and beat out someone else, but to see how far he can go. I also like how much he appreciates the reaction he gets from crowds around the world. He must feel that he is living a charmed life — as indeed he is. As Roddick said, he deserves everything he gets.

i am amazed at how fed has been able to transform into such a calm, cool and focused player. i think winning the french (and beating nadal on clay in madrid) will only improve the mental toughness– look at how calm he was pretty much throughout the entire wimby final (esp in the 2nd set tiebreak) and aced his way (50!) to history. andy was throwing everything possible at him, serving tough. it will only get better from here!
i am happy to report that while waiting for my husband at the orthodontist i came across the latest issue of sports illustrated… alas fed and andy did not make the cover, but fed is mentioned on the cover, perhaps FO cover was too recent…
anyway there is an excellent article by jon wertheim on the wimby final and much of it is about wonderful mirka! i loved it! yes there were some digs at the golden attire, but overall i thought it was well done, especially giving the mrs. the huge credit she absolutely deserves! women rule! i’m glad mirka has been such a big part of his success and happiness on and off the court.
