Speaking of the hair – I love how for formal events Roger squashes it down a little bit, so it almost looks like painted on doll hair.
Mirka is always awesome, but I must say – the casual pink sweater with the formal dress? Kind of a fashion fail. I’ll forgive her just because she’s Mirka, but couldn’t she find something a bit more formal to keep her warm? And women with huge watches on formal occasions is a bit odd, too. There are fancy smaller ones for these events.
I love Serena’s dress. On Serena. Something tells me I’d look crazy and very… goth wearing something similar. She looks great.
Does Roger loves suits, or do suits love Roger? Either way… hot! And THANK YOU SO MUCH for the 2003 link. So funny. His red bow tie was so “the class dork at the senior prom”. The long hair just made it worse, like “Oh, I’m not a dork, I’m a rebel, can’t you tell???”
And Laver is the coolest guy on the planet (sorry about that, David Bowie). He needs to do more commercials like the “keep off the grass” one.
I agree about Mirka’s sweater, but she deserves a pass. Can you imagine sitting through that epic match and then going home to get dressed up for a glamourous awards banquet when you’re 8 and 3/4 months pregnant? She probably wished she could’ve worn sweats and her fuzzy bunny slippers! : – )
C.F. I agree with you on all points! I think Mirka’s ensemble is a little casual, but she probably didn’t want to buy an ugly pregnant lady ballgown. Or maybe she did have one, but got back to the house after the match and thought “ooooh. . .jersey knit dress and flat sandals, I can’t resist you!”
I did see Serena’s dress and think “sexy witch” but agree that it looks less severe on her. Maybe because of her happy hair and big smile.

Watching Roger’s left hand is one of my favorite things about his game. Here he is, totally focused on getting the job done with his right hand, and yet his forgotten left hand fairly hums with energy. I was always getting in trouble with my ballet teacher because my hands didn’t project enough energy – well, she would have loved the wide open, elegant fingers of Roger’s left hand.
I honestly think it’s a key to his incredible movement – not in the sense of his having studied ballet dancers to learn better balance, not at all. On the contrary, I can’t imagine he ever thought about what his left hand looks like, and yet there’s the perfect form of a dancer. It’s just an innate grace that most mortals don’t possess.

At all those criticizing Mirka’s outfit – I honestly don’t believe you can get anything formal for that stage of pregnancy, since 99.999% of women just stay home at that time. Even fussing around with a shawl or something like that becomes difficult.
I simply admire her for sitting through that epic final in the crowded, uncomfortable box (my son was joking that Fed might become the first player to retire from a Grand Slam final due to the onset of labour!) and finding the energy and will to even go out in the evening.
