Matt Cronin at TennisReporters.net has the low-down on Kim Clijster’s comeback. As expected, she’s asking for wildcards into a few WTA tournaments this summer to tune up her game before making a go at regaining her U.S. Open title. The details will be fleshed out at Kimmie’s press conference tomorrow, in Belgium, but here’s the gist:

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24 – Former No. 1 Kim Clijsters will begin her comeback to the WTA Tour August 10 at the Cincinnati tournament, TennisReporters.net has learned. Clijsters will also ask for a wild card into Toronto the following week and then into the US Open, but still hasn’t decided how much she will play in the fall. She will not play at Stanford or L.A., where she once won titles. The Belgian has been training at home in Bree with her longtime hitting partner, Wim Fissette, and is said to be in tiptop shape. . .At this point, Clijsters is not considering playing a full schedule, but might end up playing 10-12 tournaments in 2009.

The timing couldn’t be better: Clijsters 31-year-old husband, Brian Lynch, is considering retirement from his European pro basketball career and will be able to travel with Kimmie and their baby. And let’s not forget, Kim is only 25 years old! We’re talking younger than the Williams sisters and just older than Jelena Jankovic! Even if she hasn’t got her mind on straight, which seemed to be an ongoing problem for her in the past,  she’s still got a pretty good shot for another slam or two. . .dont’cha think?
