Novak went nuts after his win over Roddick last night, and I don’t think it was just because he earned a spot in the U.S. Open Semi-final. Here he is:
Novak backed down from these angry statements in his post-match presser, but the man obviously took Roddick’s earlier joking to the press about the Serb’s “16 injuries,” including “SARS” and “Anthrax” quite personally. But it’s strange that Novak wanted to bring the crowd into it – they were cheering for Roddick because he was the American, Novak, not because they care about your injury drama! Geeze, self-obsessed, much? But in the end you gotta hand it to the Serb, because his anger helped him beat Andy convincingly. (But seriously, where were those injuries that you were complaining so much about yesterday, Novak?)
I think the trash talking began earlier last week, way before Andy’s statements about Novak’s trainer time out extravaganza against Tommy Robredo. Here are Andy and Novak engaging in some macho posturing at Arthur Ashe Kids Day:
What do you all make of this? I for one, love the drama!

I’m just tired of Novak’s mysterious on-court injuries, timeouts, massages, beach vacations and whatever else he seems to need to win his matches. Of course, he does it all within the rules, but it’s plain annoying and smells of gamesmanship to me.
This is why I just don’t like him. WHen he matures and bit and stops doing this sort of thing, perohaps I’ll be able to tolerate him.
love the drama, hate the djoker and his mama (and dad). every time the camera cuts to his box, i want to throw something at my tv.
why is djokovic so bitter? he sounds as if he is befuddled as to why the crowds that used to love him now root against him–and he doesn’t seem to realize that his actions and words are the reason for it. it’s not just the new york crowd–remember australia? no one from any country besides serbia was rooting for fakervic.
I don’t know; I’m kind of torn on this one. It’s not like he’s being a boor or anything like that. Granted, the calls to the trainers might be a little much, but he seems to be a fun character a lot of the time.
That crowd is going to be out of control when he plays R-Fed, I’ll tell you that much!
Yeah, the crowd loves Roger, anyway, but there was a definite vigor to their cheering in their match today.
I dislike Novak’s parents. Did anyone else here about how his dad was listening to some Serbian commentators do one of his son’s matches, and actually drove to the station to complain that they weren’t being pro-Novak enough? That’s just nuts. Maybe Toni Nadal should give them a lecture.
